What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium post that is placed into the jawbone to act like the root of a natural tooth. Once the implant has healed and bonded with the bone, a custom-made crown is attached to complete your new tooth.

Dental implants are designed to look, feel, and function much like your natural teeth.

Why choose dental implants?

Dental implants offer many benefits, including:

  • Replace one or more missing teeth
  • Restore your natural-looking smile
  • Make eating and speaking more comfortable
  • Help maintain jawbone health
  • Help prevent surrounding teeth from shifting
  • Provide a strong, stable, and long-lasting solution

What can you expect?

The dental implant process takes place over several stages. First, the implant is carefully placed into the jawbone. Over the next few months, the implant heals and becomes securely supported by the surrounding bone.

Once healing is complete, a custom-made tooth is attached, giving you a comfortable, natural-looking result.

With proper care, good oral hygiene, and regular dental visits, dental implants can last for many years.

What is the difference between implants, bridges and dentures?

A dental implant replaces the root of a missing tooth and holds a crown. A bridge uses the neighbouring teeth to hold a replacement tooth. Dentures are removable and can replace several or all teeth. Which option fits depends on your mouth and your health.

How long does a dental implant take?

Usually several months. After the implant is placed, it needs time to heal into the jawbone before the crown is attached. The dentist gives you a timeline for your situation after the exam.
